My Grandpa

WINNER OF YOUNG ARCHIE 2023

In 2023 I won the prestigious Young Archie award in the 9 - 12 category.

"I have chosen to depict my grandpa in my portrait. He is 86 years old and was a child survivor of the Holocaust. He arrived in Australia when he was 11 years old and became a scientist who helped people to have babies using IVF. Currently, he is recovering from cancer. My grandpa holds a special place in my heart. I was inspired by [German artist] Paula Modersohn-Becker’s self-portraits to create this painting of him."

My Principal

ENTERED IN YOUNG ARCHIE 2024

In 2024, I was commended as being in the top 5%.

“I have chosen to depict my school principal, Mrs Hall, as she is way more than just a principal. Mrs Hall is extremely dedicated to my school and its community. She truly cares about everyone, including the staff, families, students and all the volunteers. Mrs Hall treats everyone as if we are one big family. She can be found at the school on weekends, building, gardening and tidying up the grounds. Mrs Hall has always made me feel important and welcome, by demonstrating the school values, which include encouraging everyone to ‘be yourself’.”

My Teacher

ENTERED IN YOUNG ARCHIE 2025

In 2025, I was commended as being in the top 10%.

“Mr McRae is a truly exceptional teacher and mentor, who has been at my school for nearly 30 years. He is passionate about educating and inspiring each student to be the best person they can be. His impact goes well beyond just academic learning, especially with his dedication to teaching about the land’s indigenous history and caring for our environment. He truly loves his students and was emotional to say goodbye to his class at the end of the year. My painting represents this moment.”
